Microsoft has released the beta version of visual programing language Kodu which is used to create customize games. Kodu is enjoyable for children or anyone while they may design gaming scenarios by selecting and combining built-in graphical components and these games could be distributed and shared with others.
According to Microsoft Research:

“The Kodu language is designed specifically for game development and provides specialized primitives derived from gaming scenarios. Programs are expressed in physical terms, using concepts like vision, hearing, and time to control character behavior.”

Some features of Kodu are:

• High-level language incorporates real-world primitives: collision, color, vision
• Uses Xbox 360 Game Controller for input — no keyboard required
• Runs on XBox 360 and PC
• Interactive terrain editor
• Bridge and path builder
• Terrain editor – create worlds of arbitrary shape and size
• 20 different characters with different abilities

Kodu also needs .NET 3.5 and XNA 3.1 frameworks to run and if these are not installed on your system then Kodu installer will automatically download and install them for you.

Kodu works for Windows systems and Xbox 360, you may download it in free by using your Windows Live ID.
