Apple iPad left many users disappointed by launching the iPad with iPhone OS that limited the functionality of what could be a potential threat to notebooks. However solutions are always there, and even before the launch of the iPad, we could see an app that enables you to run Windows 7 on iPad. Citrix Systems have promised to enable running Windows 7 on iPad using Citrix XenApp (application virtualization solution) or XenDesktop (desktop virtualization solution). Citrix has already such an app for iPhone but with iPad just around the corner, there are new opportunities with larger display and full keyboard that iPhone didn’t have.

Even after being able to run Windows 7 on iPad, you could still find some missing links. Obviously absence of mouse will be felt by many but what you need to be clear about is that you will NOT be running Windows 7 on iPad, you’ll actually be using your iPad as a client to run Windows at a remote Server. So, it’s not as exciting as it sounds and still many of users will be having plenty of reasons for not buying iPad. Nonetheless, Citrix receiver will enable you to put some functionality to the iPad to make it a useful tool. However the promise of being a perfect replacement to Notebook is still way too far.
